About Hon. Pedzai Scott Sakupwanya

Humble Beginnings. Unbreakable Resolve.

Hon. Scott Sakupwanya was born and raised in Mabvuku, one of Harare’s high-density communities. Like many young Zimbabweans, his early life was marked by adversity, limited resources, and the daily realities of survival in an underserved environment. These formative years instilled in him an unshakable work ethic, street-level intelligence, and a deep understanding of grassroots struggles.

From a young age, he immersed himself in work, learning practical skills in the gold trade from the ground up. Long before boardrooms and balance sheets, he understood value through labor, trust, and persistence. He observed the informal mining economy closely β€” its risks, inefficiencies, and untapped potential β€” and began to envision a more structured, inclusive system that could uplift ordinary miners while strengthening national output.

His rise was neither accidental nor easy. It was built on calculated risk-taking, discipline, strategic relationships, and relentless reinvestment. Over time, Scott transitioned from participant to pioneer, from trader to industrialist β€” laying the foundations of what would become one of Zimbabwe’s most prominent indigenous business groups.

Betterbrands Group

Founder & Chairman

The cornerstone of Hon. Sakupwanya’s business legacy is the Betterbrands Group, a diversified enterprise with strategic interests in mining, gold buying, jewellery manufacturing, construction, fuel, and commodities.

Betterbrands was established with a clear mission: to formalise informal value chains, empower local producers, and anchor Zimbabwean resources within Zimbabwean hands.

Mining & Gold Buying

Betterbrands is widely recognised as a licensed gold buying powerhouse, playing a critical role in Zimbabwe’s mineral economy. The company works closely with artisanal and small-scale miners, providing:

β€’ Fair and transparent pricing
β€’ Immediate liquidity
β€’ Secure channels into the formal economy
β€’ Compliance support and traceability

By bridging the gap between informal mining communities and the national gold ecosystem, Betterbrands has contributed significantly to record national gold deliveries, while improving livelihoods across mining regions.

Construction & Infrastructure Development

Betterbrands’ construction arm focuses on strategic infrastructure development, including:

β€’ Commercial buildings
β€’ Residential projects
β€’ Sports infrastructure
β€’ Community facilities

These projects are designed not only for profitability but for long-term national utility, aligning business growth with urban development and social progress.

Energy, Fuel & Commodities

Recognising the central role of energy and logistics in economic growth, the group has expanded into fuel supply and commodity trading, strengthening supply chains and supporting industrial productivity.
